Our story

About Harbourside Nelson

Harbourside Nelson is currently being updated and refreshed — we’ve got a new look, a new name (previously Harbourside Lodge) but the same beautiful waterfront spot. We look a bit different to how you might remember us with a new ‘nautical’ paint scheme on the outside and continual upgrades to our rooms. Check in for new photos and our new logo in late August, all part of our change in focus from just another mid-level motel to a boutique waterfront stay.

We sit directly overlooking Nelson’s only marina at 4 Duncan Street, Port Nelson — the only accommodation at the Marina (unless you’re in a boat!). Close enough to watch the yachts from your room or meander the piers. And an easy 15 minute stroll to the city centre along the beautiful Maitai river walk.

  • Nelson’s only marina-front accommodation
  • Complimentary continental breakfast
  • Easy off street parking
  • Anchor Restaurant & Bar — casual dining right next door
  • Nelson city centre — 15 minute stroll or 5 minute drive
  • Nelson Airport — 15 minute drive

Our values — kaitiakitanga

Caring for the harbour we sit beside

We’re guided by kaitiakitanga — the principle of guardianship and care for the natural environment, for the benefit of generations to come. We do our best to practice this by cleaning with natural, environmentally friendly products, recycling, avoiding single-use plastics, and supporting renewable energy suppliers. It’s a small part of looking after the marina we’re lucky enough to call home, and to share with our guests.

Our values — manaakitanga

Caring for our guests

The principal of manaakitanga — hospitality, generosity, respect and care for our guests is the foundation of our business. It shapes how we welcome and treat every guest, whether you’re here for one night or a longer stay. Our goal is to ensure that:

    • Every guest feels genuinely cared for
    • Every room feels inviting
    • Every stay is easy
    • Every guest leaves feeling more relaxed than when they arrived
    • Every guest leaves with a story worth sharing
